Being born and raised in the Bronx, baseball was
the most important thing in his life as he grew up.
Tom practically lived for baseball. He watched the
games on TV and played at every opportunity, also
making a hobby of reviewing box scores in the newspaper
on a daily basis. As a youngster, he also collected
baseball cards and studied his favorite players' stats.
For him, seeing baseball being played in Greece is
a dream come true and though he may not play at the
same level he coaches, he is happy to successfully
lead the Spartakos team as it's General Manager.
Tom joined the team in early 2000 and led Spartakos
Glyfadas to it's first Greek Cup Championship in 2000
and later again in 2002. He has been with the team
ever since and is enjoying every minute of it.
As senior writer for ESPN.com, Jim Caple, says...
"It
might be a stretch to call Tom Mazarakis the Abner
Doubleday of Greek baseball. But given the murky claims
of the game's alleged inventor, it's also a stretch
to call Abner Doubleday the Abner Doubleday of baseball"
A personal message from Tom to all readers of the
site: " Go Spartakos!!!
