Team's History
"A.C. Spartakos Glyfadas" was one of the first Greek baseball
teams.
As told by Kostas Arvanitis:
"My brother Billy
and I used to play soccer at the abandoned baseball field located
at the old American base in Hellinikon. One day, we found a few
American guys playing baseball and they invited us to play with
them. They advised us to get our gloves so that they could teach
us how to play. After making a habit of meeting to play ball,
we asked our dad if he would be willing to officially register
a baseball team if we were to recruit enough players to fill up
the field. He agreed and we got ourselves a team!"
The team is based in Glyfada and was originally established in
1980, also featuring several other sports departments including:
- Softball
- Tennis
- Wrestling
- Weight Lifting
- Triathlon
- Road & Mountain Biking
- Judo
The founder and president of Spartakos is Andreas Arvanitis,
who is also a member in the Greek Olympic Commitee and the General
Secretary of the Triathlon Federation of Greece.
The Spartakos Baseball team has participated in the local Greek
Baseball League since its addition to the Spartakos family in the
year 2000. Since the very beginning, Spartakos has been playing
some of the best baseball in Greece.
